What is EUC Doing?
Ecological University Coordinatorship (EUC) was established with the aim of creating an environmentally friendly and sustainable campus. In this context, the goals and fields of activity of our coordinatorship have been determined as follows:
- Ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability by applying smart technologies and automation systems.
- Acting within a campus formation that meets all its energy needs by using renewable energy sources such as sun and wind energy
- Having environmentally friendly and ecological campus qualifications by getting national and international certificates from accredited organizations.
- Have waste management systems where wastes are disposed in a smart and environmentally friendly manner.
- Increasing awareness of the students with courses on environment and sustainability.
Among the stakeholders of our coordinatorship are academics, administrative staff, students, public institutions, non-governmental organizations and student societies.
Projects carried out by the Ecological University Coordinatorship within the scope of its determined targets and field of activities:
- Energy Efficiency Applications in Public Buildings (KABEV Project)
- Seismic Resilience and Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings (KABEV)
- Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance Project for Municipalities and Universities (YEVDES)
- Zero Waste Project
With the ISO 50001 Energy Management System, which is being established at our university, knowledge will be gained on energy production, consumption, and efficiency. Trainings and events are organized in order to raise awareness in the scope of sustainability. It is also being planned to carry out studies on water and landscape management, recycling of food waste and other wastes as well as maintaining biodiversity. In particular, within the scope of the Zero Waste Project, efforts are underway to establish a Waste Management System, which is a project managed together with the "Smart University Coordinatorship" (SUC).
Additionally, the Environmental and Social Management Plan of the KABEV project has been prepared. Accordingly, existing thermal leaks in the H block, our main building, will be eliminated regarding the energy efficiency. The automation system built in the central classroom project, will enable monitoring the energy consumption of the buildings and the correct use of energy with software supports and control units.
As the Ecological University Coordinatorship, we have applied for certification to the UI GreenMetric University Ranking System for year 2022. In addition, we have initiated the necessary initiatives to apply to Leed Certification system within the scope of green-ecological building certification systems.
