Leed

Green Building Rating Systems have become very popular in recent years as they are an important part of sustainable development around the world. Buildings becoming more sustainable can result in energy saving, safe structure, and enhancing the community standards. These buildings are an important part of addressing climate change and accomplishing sustainability goals.

The Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED), which was introduced to Canada in 2004, is a green building rating system that has become more popular in recent years, and certifies buildings as sustainable at one of four different levels: Standard, Silver, Gold and Platinum (LEED, 2016) based on points and credits obtained in the categories of carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health, and indoor environmental quality of a building. Platinum is accepted to be the highest and most sustainable, while Certified is still acceptable but not accepted as a perfect building.
